This half day course is exclusively for parents. It aims to support parents who have reason to believe that their child may have dyslexia, or whose child has recently been diagnosed with dyslexia. This course is for parents of children in primary and middle schools and offers to use at home.
This afternoon session will explain what dyslexia is, how it is assessed and look at issues facing parents and children with dyslexia. It will offer practical solutions to support whole families in the home and their dyslexic child at school. The course will also focus on supporting the development of literacy skills and will provide solutions to:
- What is dyslexia and how does it affect my child and our family
- How to support your child when listening to them read
- Different ways of learning and retaining words on the weekly spelling test
- Fun resources for children to use independently at home, including CD Rom games, such as Word Shark, and Nessy designed for children with dyslexia
This course is delivered by :
Jane Dupree, director of Brainwaves Education Ltd at her recently expanded Dyslexia and Literacy Support Centre in Glemsford. Jane is a teacher with over 20 years of experience, teaching and assessing children with Specific Learning Difficulties, including dyslexia.
